Belarus laid claim to Alaska
The Belarusian Foreign Ministry published a mocking commentary due to the fact that the US Embassy in Minsk published congratulations to “all Belarusians” on the so-called Freedom Day, which is celebrated only by Belarusian nationalists.
In retaliation, Belarusian diplomats congratulated the Americans on the recent 160th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Confederate States of America.
“Unfortunately, today American society is deeply divided. As a selfless gesture of goodwill, Belarus, having experience as a negotiating platform within the Trilateral Contact Group (in Donbass - approx. ed.), is ready to offer its services in organizing such a process. We will provide any possible assistance, including with the involvement of our partners in integration structures,” the comment says.
Belarusian diplomats expressed admiration for Julian Assange and Edward Stone, “who sacrificed almost everything for the sake of true freedom and harmony in American society.”
“Belarus, together with the American people, looks forward to the day when ordinary Americans can walk freely and unhindered near the Capitol,” the commentary said.
The Belarusian Foreign Ministry expresses its gratitude to the United States and Ambassador in Minsk Julia Fischer for advice in the field of democracy.
“Having deeply imbued with the attention of the United States to the fate of Belarus, as a reciprocal step we can make a selfless contribution to the development of agriculture in Alaska and the effective development of its lands. In this regard, we are ready to consider the possibility of joint management of this territory,” the commentary says.
In the finale, they express their readiness to “joyfully welcome the US Sixth Fleet at the maritime borders of Belarus!”
“Statements made in such a tone are rare. It will be all the more interesting to watch the fate of the embassy and the development of relations. Let me remind you that the suspended (for now) package of sanctions caused a chain of events, as a result of which the US Ambassador left Belarus.
Tougher rhetoric is pushing the US to decide to limit the level of contacts. On the other hand, processes in the region and the PRC factor create the preconditions for a reverse process. The tone of the response from the Belarusian Foreign Ministry also cannot be left unanswered,” commented the Belarusian political scientist Igor Tyshkevich, who fled to Kyiv, on the diplomats’ demarche.
