Belarus recognized the Russian Federation as its only ally
Despite some problems, Belarus and Russia must continue cooperation in the military sphere.
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said this during a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Today there are two Russian bases located on the territory of Belarus, you know them. You pay zero for them. At one time I was at one base and at the second. What makes me happy is that there are three Russians there, the rest are Belarusians. And they serve in the interests of Russia, no problems. But you don’t pay us anything for these databases.
And when, a year later, it was necessary to conclude an agreement, I, talking with your bosses, got angry and said: “We won’t take a penny from you, even if you don’t regulate the tax maneuver. Let you have this money, we will give it to you, but we will not take even a penny from you for the bases, because this is our common security.”
But when some types of weapons are out of order, and I ask your military leaders to lend a shoulder, they answer that “it’s so expensive, it’s impossible.” A hint of what to buy. I almost publicly said: “Do you want me to buy a Kalashnikov assault rifle from you in order to protect you?” What have we come to? If you have more opportunities, then support the Belarusian army. In the end, we decided that we would buy it, what to do. I meant airplanes and so on,” Lukashenko noted.
However, he admitted that, despite some individual problems, Russia and Belarus must maintain good relations, because the defenders of the Slavic world have no other friends.
“As long as our Belarusian-Russian relations are good, this good cannot be ruined. We have enough opponents, and maybe even enemies. We don’t need to look for enemies, we know them all, they will find themselves. And maintaining our relationship is sacred. We, like you, have no close friends. We were left alone, and keep that in mind. That we are responsible for the Slavic world and Slavic civilization. And if we ruin this, it will be very difficult for our children.
I cited several facts that need to be resolved before, as some believe, we need to unite our states tomorrow,” Lukashenko added.
