Belarus is going to buy Russian oil for pennies
Belarus will buy oil from Russia in April at a price of $4 per barrel.
This was stated today by the Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Rumas, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The supply of Russian oil will be carried out without a premium. This strict and consistent position of the head of state on the purchase of oil without a price premium is maintained by the government. The result of this position is the price at which we will buy oil in April: about $4 per barrel. We expect to receive 2 million tons of oil,” Rumas said.
Last week, Deputy Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation Aleksey Sazanov already denied Rumas’s words that Russia would pay a bonus from its own budget to companies supplying oil to Belarusian refineries. Traditionally, these premiums are paid by the buyer.
In February, President Lukashenko announced that Russia accepted the Belarusian conditions and would pay at least $300 million to compensate for its tax maneuver. This statement was then disavowed by Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak. The price of oil rose 12% this morning.
At the same time, the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov made it clear that so far there have been no such proposals from Russia.
“This is a question of market conditions. We always talk about market conditions. If there are such times, if there are offers at such prices, then it will be possible to purchase. But if such market times do not come, and even if they do, there will be no supply, then it will not be possible to purchase,” Peskov commented on Rumas’ statement.
