Belarus is in a hurry to make an offer to Russia due to falling prices
Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Rumas held talks in Moscow today with his Russian counterpart Mikhail Mishustin.
They discussed, among other things, the supply of Russian oil, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The situation has changed recently, oil prices have fallen. In this regard, the Belarusian side presented the Russian side with new proposals for oil companies, which the Russian side accepted, promising to hold consultations with oil companies within a few days and give a response. At first glance, these proposals were not rejected by the Russian side. I think we will make progress in resolving the oil dispute,” Rumas told reporters following the negotiations.
He refused to say what the essence of these proposals was, but at the same time he was glad that the negative balance in bilateral trade had decreased due to a reduction in Russian oil supplies.
The Belarusian Prime Minister found it difficult to say how much oil Belarus intends to buy from Russia (previously, Alexander Lukashenko stated that this would be 30% of the total need).
“Everything will depend on what terms we agree on. If the Russian side moves in its position, then, of course, today the most convenient logistics is through a pipe from the Russian Federation,” admitted Rumas.
At the same time, he stated that Belarus intends to buy alternative oil even if it is possible to reach an agreement with Russia.
“Belarus has decided that all the same – at least one tanker per plant per month. Because issues of economic security, issues of diversification of supplies have been discussed, decisions have been made. The only question is whether we will take a lot of this alternative oil, as we take today, or will it be minimal quantities so that we understand and feel the market,” Rumas convinced journalists.
