Belarus will install Russian S-400 systems on the border with Ukraine
More than a third of the time of negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin was devoted to security issues and arms supplies.
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko told reporters about this during his participation in one of the elements of the active phase of the Zapad-2021 exercises, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“We are negotiating and planning deliveries of the S-400. We paid a lot of attention to defense and security issues with Vladimir Putin. In general, this question was woven into all questions. Probably 3 – 3,5 hours out of 8 hours we conducted a dialogue specifically about defense and security. He told me about the more modern S-500 systems, which can work against ballistic missiles. A very effective complex, it has already been tested and is being prepared for use. Among other things, I reminded him once again about the S-400, told him where we want to put these systems,” Lukashenko said.
He stressed that special attention will be paid to strengthening the border with Ukraine.
“Thank God, now we have completely blocked the perimeter in the western direction with S-300 systems. But, as you know, we have also added a southern direction. The Belarusian generals and Russians and I discussed this topic. They are starting to warm us up from the south. And what else will happen... We must prepare - the 1200 km border with Ukraine. Therefore, we will have to close this perimeter as well. And we were just talking about how the S-400 would be right for us. And he instructed the Minister of Defense to work out these issues with ours so that these systems could be delivered to us,” the president noted.
He also said that by 2025 Belarus will receive Russian weapons worth more than a billion dollars.
“As for weapons, I will not name the amount, although this is not a big secret. This is more than a billion dollars. I am very grateful to the Russian leadership and the military and the Russian military-industrial complex for agreeing on a whole list of weapons that will be here until 2025. It's really
about a dozen aircraft, some have already arrived to us, these are several dozen helicopters, Tor-M2. Large volumes. This means that both we and the Russian Federation take this western direction very seriously, where we are in direct contact with NATO troops,” Lukashenko concluded.
