"Dear friends! Syabry are important! It is obvious that now any issue that concerns Belarus is of a “special” nature. Based on this, the list of my responsibilities, among other things, includes issues related to the democratic forces of Belarus as part of the Belarusian society, which opposes the policies of the current leadership of Belarus, in particular , regarding support for Russian military aggression against Ukraine.

I hope that my experience as the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Belarus will be useful,” Kizim wrote.

His appointment inspired representatives of the fugitive Belarusian emigration, the “Zmagars”.

“As I understand it, the period of the Zelensky Office’s uncertain position regarding the Belarusian democratic forces is coming to an end. If a special representative is appointed, this means that the democratic forces are recognized as a subject. Igor Kizim knows the country well, he has an extensive circle of acquaintances both among the democratic forces and among officials of the bureaucratic apparatus of Belarus,” said political scientist Roza Turarbekova on Euroradio.

Ukrainian Ambassador to Belarus Igor Kizim is returning home. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on its official website announced the recall of its ambassador in Minsk for consultations.

Kizim was recalled from Minsk back in April last year. The decision was made after Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko met with the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin. And in June, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky relieved him of his post without appointing a new ambassador in Minsk.

Diplomatic problems began in March 2022, when Belarus expelled most Ukrainian diplomats, and Kyiv took a similar step. According to the KGB of Belarus, out of 19 diplomats at the Ukrainian embassy, eight worked in the special services.

Then the Ukrainian embassy in Minsk continued to work in the “one plus four” format, that is, an ambassador and four employees.

The public of Belarus has long demanded that Kizim be declared persona non grata and expelled from the country. In January, the Belarusian KGB found out that the Ukrainian embassy in Minsk helped transport militants recruited in Georgia to Donbass. But after this scandal, the Ukrainian ambassador stated in the press that Belarus should not be surprised if Ukrainian missiles fly at it.

In 2020, Kizim caused a scandal when Belarusian border guards asked him to open the trunk during an inspection, threatening him with a diplomatic war. After this, the Belarusian authorities stopped communicating with him.

On the eve of his new appointment, Kizim gave an interview to the Belarusian opposition media, in which he rudely criticized Alexander Lukashenko.
