A representative of the State Department and the head of Russian intelligence visited Belarus simultaneously
US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State George Kent arrived in Minsk. This is his second visit this year. Kent plans to meet with Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei.
This was reported by the opposition website TUT.BY, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The US Embassy in Belarus reports that a representative of the State Department laid flowers at the monument to Maxim Bogdanovich, considered one of the creators of the literary Belarusian language.
“Deputy Assistant Secretary George Kent had the honor of paying tribute to the distinguished classicist Maxim Bogdanovich and reflecting on the legacy of Belarusian literature and the modern literary Belarusian language,” the embassy said on its Facebook page.
At the same time as Kent, the director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, Sergei Naryshkin, visited Belarus. At the invitation of the Chairman of the State Security Committee of the Republic of Belarus, Valery Vakulchik, he paid a working visit to the city of Brest.
The leaders discussed the results and prospects of interaction between the two intelligence services in the field of ensuring national interests, the SVR press bureau reports. The importance of consolidating efforts aimed at strengthening the potential of Moscow and Minsk in countering global challenges and threats to the security of the Union State was noted.
“We devoted part of our time to such a problem as the attempt of Western countries, the intelligence services of these countries, to interfere quite aggressively in the internal affairs of our states. This is absolutely unacceptable for us. Therefore, in defending the sovereignty and democratic freedoms of our states and citizens, we are building a special defense,” BelTA quotes Naryshkin as saying.
Finally, to complete the controversial panorama of Belarusian events on the same day, the Ministry of Defense of Belarus reports that today in Kiev a short working meeting took place between the Chief of the General Staff of the Belarusian Armed Forces Oleg Belokonev and the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Ruslan Khomchak.
The state of bilateral military cooperation was analyzed, prospects for its development, as well as other issues of mutual interest were discussed.
