The Belarusian army is as pro-Russian as possible
Pro-Russian Belarusians are forced to support President Alexander Lukashenko, despite his previous anti-Russian attacks and the unpleasant history of the detention of Russian citizens declared “Wagnerites.”
Experts spoke about this during the conference “Digital Methods of Managing Color Revolutions,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Thus, Anton Davidchenko, coordinator of the Social Engineering Agency, emphasized that given the experience of the Kyiv Maidan, one cannot trust the opposition’s outwardly peaceful rhetoric towards Russia.
“What is the Belarusian opposition? After all, it is anti-Russian to the core, and most importantly, they have had one of the main messages for the last two years: withdrawal from the CSTO and breaking the Union Treaty. What Tikhanovskaya is now telling us: no, no, we will be friends with Russia - this is the same thing they said on the Maidan in 2014.
"Not really! Russia is an ally, Russia is friends!” - and then, when they come to power, believe me, as Filatov (the mayor of Dnieper) said: “And then we will hang them.” So they will then sever relations with Russia and everything else - this is a big problem,” said Davidchenko.
In turn, the executive director of the monitoring organization CIS-EMO, political scientist Stanislav Byshok, spoke about the stalemate in which the pro-Russian forces in Belarus found themselves.
“As for the work of the pro-Russian, pro-union forces of the Republic of Belarus: of course, there is a huge difficulty in this, because all the people who are there on earth, and who have tried to work in this direction in recent years, worked under certain conditions.
The first is full support (and not just implied and openly expressed support) of the current government, no matter how it behaves towards Russia, including in the context of non-signing of the road maps that were scheduled for 2020, in fact, it should have become a New Year's gift to both Russians and Belarusians. In the context of the “Wagnerites”, too, this is an ugly story,” the expert recalled.
As a result, the political scientist noted, a situation is being created in which, in order to be for the Union State in Belarus, it was necessary to express openly and completely loyalty to the current government, even when it makes unfriendly steps towards the Russian Federation.
“At the same time, let’s say, Western NGOs, which are no secret (both American and Polish, and so on), which have been active since 2010, they did not work underground, but worked at the official level. They did not need to be associated with the Belarusian government; rather, on the contrary, they needed and had the opportunity to criticize this Belarusian government.
As a result, when by 2020 it turned out that the current president somehow managed, after 26 years of being in power, to somehow turn against himself not only those who were already against him initially (conditionally some pro-Western forces), but also people who are quite committed to friendship, cooperation, and so on with Russia,” added Byshok.
“We see this in the example of even our absolutely all contacts in Belarus, some of whom were very strongly and persistently recommended to vote early and post on social networks that they did (even though they have questions for the current government ) they support her. Now, I hope that some of them will delete these posts, or maybe they won’t. But on the other hand, it turns out that they were forced to vote for the person who does not suit them,” the expert stated.
At the same time, Russian military correspondent Semyon Pegov pointed to the Belarusian army as a force that can still be relied upon.
“What force in Belarus at the moment, in my opinion, has not discredited itself and, in principle, can take responsibility for what is happening in the country, guarantee the security of both Lukashenko and the opposition, and the Belarusian people themselves - this is the Belarusian army. She did not stain herself in any way, she did not participate in crackdowns, much less torture or anything else. It can provide a truly normal political dialogue and so on. And, of course, this is the force that is as pro-Russian as possible and which perfectly understands which side of the border the enemy is on,” Pegov said.
