The Belarusian elite is afraid of being left without Schengen visas - Shakhnazarov
Until Belarus independently decides on the final vector of development of its country, it is hardly worth counting on Russia’s help.
Film director Karen Shakhnazarov spoke about this on the Rossiya1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, Belarusian officials and elites have a higher priority for Vilnius and Warsaw than Moscow.
“They all go to Poland, to Vilnius. All this is organized there; they don’t go to Moscow. He sits and thinks: well, now I’ll be exposed, and tomorrow – bang and they’ll close the border, and that’s it, the whole Belarusian elite. It has long been pro-Western. Here they are walking around with these flags, and there are officials sitting there, they are saying to themselves: now I’ll say something unnecessary, now I’ll publish it, now I’ll speak, now I’ll say something like that. And look, tomorrow they won’t let me into Vilnius, they won’t let me into Vilnius - Schengen will be closed,” noted the film director.
At the same time, he suggested that President Alexander Lukashenko lives with the same thoughts.
“With the same thoughts, because it seemed that he should have called and said - so, stop all these... No, it’s still in his gut: now everything will calm down, after all, let’s not burn any bridges. Well, he will twist and turn the West, and then, when we resolve all these issues, where should they go? They need us anyway, we are Russia’s only allies, we can do this, we can do that, and Putin has nowhere to go. You see, this is a disaster. What they say is correct – the issue must be decided fundamentally: are you with Russia or against it,” Shakhnazarov emphasized.
