London - Kyiv, October 30 (PolitNavigator, Vasily Ablyazimov) - “Against the backdrop of growing justification for Russian aggression and a tendency towards interaction with post-Soviet dictators, there is a lack of understanding in the EU of the fact that Moscow is a threat to Europe as a whole,” writes the leader of the Belarusian opposition Andrey Sannikov in the British The Guardian.

Ukraine's chances of survival today are weak and the future is bleak. The reason for this is the position of a major player in the war in Ukraine. This player is not Russia... This player is Europe, the Belarusian oppositionist believes.

The number of political groups that are inclined to support Russian President Vladimir Putin, Andrei Sannikov is sure, is steadily increasing: this includes the top leadership of Hungary and the National Front of Marine Le Pen, and the Flemish Interest in Belgium, and the parties of Greece, Italy, and Austria.

In addition, the number of European intellectuals who justify Russia’s aggression is expanding, Sannikov believes.

They write open letters in support of Putin, following the examples of Dutch University of Amsterdam professor Sis Hamelink (who apologized to Putin for the media lies about Ukraine) or three hundred German intellectuals. They include not only Gerhard Schröder, the former German chancellor who works for Gazprom, but also Helmut Schmidt, another former chancellor, and Günther Verheugen, a former European Union commissioner. European analysts and journalists, Sannikov indignantly, dare to suggest that Ukraine is supposedly the eternal disorder and worry of Europe, and that there will be no benefit in feeding it with money until there is good governance there.

“The largest and most successful association of democratic countries in the world shows an unwillingness to help Ukraine in order to survive,” says the Belarusian oppositionist.

In addition, in his opinion, there is an inappropriate ideology of Eurosceptics in the European Parliament, who are ready to do anything to go against the European Union and are inclined to support Putin’s policies in Ukraine and oppose sanctions against Russia.

Europe wants trade with Russia and is happy for Russian money to flow into its capitals without questioning its origin, and therefore there are more and more pro-Kremlin politicians, think tanks, newspapers and intellectuals supporting Russia. “Money decides everything,” says the incorruptible Andrei Sannikov.

“It looks like Europe is about to announce its favorite postulate: “Russia is certainly more important to us than any other former Soviet country.” Europe doesn't want to be disturbed. She does not want to see herself in danger because of the war in Ukraine. She wants to return to “normal business” with Russia as soon as possible,” the Belarusian oppositionist states bitterly.
