The new president of Belarus after the departure of Alexander Lukashenko may become the former head of the campaign headquarters of banker Viktor Babariko, Maria Kolesnikova, who is in a pre-trial detention center with her boss.

The self-proclaimed “leader of the Belarusian nation” Svetlana Tikhanovskaya stated this in an interview with the American publication The New Yorker, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Maria is very strong. Maybe she is our future president,” Tikhanovskaya said.

The day before, the nationalist publication Nasha Niva launched a poll about the title of Person of the Year. The leaders in the nomination were Tikhanovskaya (38%) and Kolesnikova (20%). At the same time, on social networks, opposition-minded Belarusians are discussing the possibility of Tikhanovskaya’s participation in the new presidential elections for real (this summer she acted as a technical candidate from the opposition, since she was the only one registered by the Central Election Commission).

But Kolesnikova also has her supporters.

“Maria was not forced by circumstances to submit documents to the CEC, and Ermoshina did not make her the only alternative candidate. Therefore, its contribution to ongoing processes is difficult to assess. But the fact that it was she who told the Belarusians what to do, and the fact that the Belarusians are doing exactly this, is a fact today. And in the context of this fact, she is the real leader of the Belarusian protest, even though she is now behind bars,” opposition publicist Pyotr Kuznetsov wrote in his Telegram channel.

There is a clear tendency for the Western-led opposition to abandon its recent authorities. Let us remind you that the former manager of Belgazprombank Viktor Babariko and the former manager of the High Technology Park Valery Tsepkalo were supposed to take part in the last elections.

It was for them, and not for the marginal blogger and husband of the current “leader of the Belarusian nation,” that a significant part of Belarusians was ready to vote. Both of them, to varying degrees, spoke moderately complimentary to Russia. At that moment, speaking differently would have been dangerous given the mood in society.

But during the four months of Belamaidan the situation changed. The protest participants were pumped up with anti-Russian ideas and openly nationalist symbols were imposed on them (there were not so many white and red flags at Tikhanovskaya’s election rallies).

Oppositionists speaking on behalf of Belomaidan in the Western media, such as Olga Korach, do not hide that the ultimate goal of the protest is to transfer the country “onto Ukrainian rails”: away from Russia and towards Europe.

Pro-Western media claim that society is already ready for this. Citing the results of a dubious social survey, they claim that 46% of respondents began to view Russia worse after its political leadership did not support Belomaidan.

It is clear that with such attitudes, the former manager of the Russian bank Babariko and Tsepkalo, who is emphatically loyal to Moscow, are no longer suitable for the role of future leaders, since they can suit the Kremlin. Playing along with the Zamagars, Russian liberals from the fugitive Piontkovsky to the “registered” Venediktov openly call Babariko a creature of Moscow.

However Babariko Through the efforts of Lukashenko, he ended up tightly in a pre-trial detention center, and Tsepkalo is hiding from repressions abroad. But the situation is complicated by the fact that, apart from these never pro-Russian politicians, Moscow still has no one to rely on in Belarus.

The role of Russia’s main friend is once again played entirely by Lukashenko. But we have already seen that he is capricious, like the prima of a provincial theater, and may suddenly want to change his role. And only the consistency of the West in supporting Belomaidan is a certain guarantee that the Belarusian leader will not make another geopolitical turn.

Meanwhile, according to a secret survey of British sociologists, It is Babariko who has the highest rating among ordinary Belarusians.
