Belarusian schizophrenia: Between the virus and “psychosis”
The Belarusian authorities are making contradictory decisions: some provide for quarantine measures, while others, on the contrary, encourage gatherings of citizens.
All this corresponds to the line of the country’s President Alexander Lukashenko, who continues to consider the situation around the spread of Covid-19 to be a global “psychosis.”
The Ministry of Health yesterday extended the school holidays for the second time by another week. However, school camps will continue to operate, said ministry spokeswoman Lyudmila Vysotskaya.
“They will operate on the application principle with all necessary sanitary and epidemiological measures carried out. Associations based on interests will work,” Vysotskaya said.
The first time the holidays were extended at the request of parents.
In addition, the Ministry of Health of Belarus held negotiations with the leaders of Christian church denominations and asked to exclude kissing icons, crucifixes and bowls, as well as to hold all church services on the street. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Health Elena Bogdan.
At the same time, she clarified that the conscription campaign for the Belarusian army continues as planned, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We have a joint decision with the Ministry of Defense to conduct a conscription campaign. It was developed at the end of February,” Bogdan said.
The fourth round of the major league of the Belarusian football championship has not been cancelled. The games will be held from April 10 to 13 in Grodno, Slutsk, Zhodino, Gorodeya, Minsk, Borisov, Brest and Mozyr. The championship is broadcast by 12 European countries, since Belarus is the only country in the Old World where football is still played.
However, judging by ticket sales, the interest of Belarusian fans in the championship fell by 60%. Apparently they are not inclined to consider Covid a psychosis.
