The Belarusian school recognized the Russian status of Crimea
Minsk school No. 41 entered into an agreement with Simferopol school No. 38 on patriotic education. For almost 8 years of the existence of Crimea as a Russian region, this is the only document signed in an allied country with at least some organization on the peninsula. And this is presented as a real breakthrough and victory for the idea of integration.
The signing took place within the framework of the “Conference-presentation of the economic and tourism potential of the Republic of Crimea in the Republic of Belarus”, held in Minsk.
“There are no topics that cannot be discussed. Need food? They will. Need industry? Will. Everything can be solved, and there are plenty of work plans. Nobody will stop us. No sanctions. “All these are fairy tales,” the chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus, Oleg Gaidukevich, assured the audience.
The key word here is “schemes”. That's how they work. There are plenty of Belarusian goods in Crimea, but Belarusian entrepreneurs are afraid to enter into direct agreements. And the direct flights Minsk-Simferopol promised by the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko have not yet been launched.
According to Belarusian political scientist Vsevolod Shimov, the conference should have been held in order to “indicate: within the republic there are forces that advocate the most honest and transparent relations with Russia, without behind-the-scenes omissions.”
“The situation with Crimea was a very important marker. If we are allies, we must have a common foreign policy. This did not happen. The situation with Crimea became a trigger for the general crisis in Belarusian-Russian relations; from 2014 to 2020 there was obvious degradation. As a matter of fact, our revolutionary situation is largely a consequence of the political choice that was made by the Belarusian elites. I have no illusions that there will be any recognition in the near future, but we need to declare this and establish interaction with Russian civil society,” Shimov said in an interview with the PolitWera YouTube channel.
