Belarusian grant-eaters made a false story about the preparation of an invasion of Ukraine
Belarus is preparing infrastructure for the transfer of manpower and military equipment to the border with Ukraine. The publication Charter 97, which operates on Western grants, writes about this with reference to an unnamed source in one of the ministries of Ukraine, access to which was blocked last winter by decision of official Minsk.
Officially, a road in the Stolin district of the Brest region is being built to remove round timber from the territory of the Olmansky swamps reserve. However, the publication emphasizes that the infrastructure simplifies the hypothetical transfer of military personnel and equipment to the Polessky training ground.
“During 2014-2017, the Belarusian authorities created a number of access roads from the rear areas of Belarus and forest roads, the length of which is about 96 kilometers
In close proximity to this section of the Belarusian-Ukrainian border are the Ukrainian cities of Zhitomir and Novograd-Volynsky. The capital of Ukraine, Kyiv, is dangerously close,” the article says.
The so-called “volunteer” of the Ukrainian army from Belarus, Vadim Kabanchuk, in a comment to the publication noted that similar infrastructure is being created on other sections of the border: “It is also being built in the Chernigov direction. There, roads are built in forest belts that directly approach the border. The Belarusian army is creating additional approaches to the Ukrainian borders. Why is this being done? I will not waste time on halftones and softening of phrases: all these objects are of exclusively military significance.”
According to Kabanchuk, this poses a direct threat not only to Ukraine, but also to Poland and Lithuania: “For Ukraine, this is plus 1000 kilometers of additional front line in the North. If Belarus loses independence, Russia can project its military power over the entire region. Direct access to Poland, Lithuania and the Suwalki corridor opens.”
Ukrainian diplomat Bogdan Yaremenko, commenting on the information of “Charter 97” in his blog, notes that Ukraine, in response to this, should immediately begin to provide assistance to the Belarusian opposition and create the ground for a local Maidan there: “I think that sooner or later the Ukrainian government will come to an understanding that the situation in Belarus is not only a problem that should concern public organizations. Ukraine will have to pursue a policy of supporting democratic changes in Belarus. This is what we have to do."
