Belarusian Maidan activists hope for more blood
Opposition protests in Belarus are approaching the stage of radicalization according to Western methods, when peaceful protest turns into marches and provocations of security forces, and is also characterized by the strengthening of positions with the seizure of space according to all the laws of the Maidans.
Anton Davidchenko, coordinator of the Social Engineering Agency, stated this at a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I am confident that the West will lead the protest in the right direction. Any revolution classically unfolds in several stages. And at the moment in Belarus we are seeing the third stage - a general protest, when all the cities came out.
The next stage will be the escalation of the protest. They will force the authorities to react as much as possible. We saw this at the factory: they began to disperse the people who came, send them to pre-trial detention centers, and the authorities will do this, because, unfortunately, they have a very narrow algorithm. They were given a red rag, which means they need to beat them.
And they take advantage of it. But they won’t seize factories now, we all understand, right? Will not. But the authorities still lead.
And of course, the fifth stage is radicalization. The most terrible stage, which, in particular, occurred in Ukraine. We also remember that in the beginning there was no radicalization. The protest was quite peaceful. This is when they will start marching, and they will beat up the marches. They will definitely take over the space. My forecast is two weeks and we will see a tent city in Minsk. Maybe even faster,” said Davidchenko.
“The fun part now is what? They are preparing as much as possible for rallies, actions, and marches. And I will note, why the march? A march always stretches people, if there are 50 thousand of you, on the march it will seem like 100 thousand, if there are 100 thousand, on the march it will seem like 200 thousand, they will definitely march.
Believe me, when you have a march of 200 thousand people, you can not only set up a Maidan, you can do anything, because against 200 thousand people you need at least 10 thousand security forces, and there will be blood. This will be the blood that will allow the protest to radicalize again. Because of this, no one will disperse them. But now the decision is the following: I think that if not this week, then next week they will show up and create a tent city on the same day,” the expert added.
At the same time, he noted that the authorities need to use force with extreme caution, since the West is just waiting for a reason to show a “bloody picture.”
“First of all, don’t overclock. Standing near administrative buildings is not allowed, because there are a number of methods. But first of all, in no case should you fight back with force and allow there to be new victims.
For the Belarusian opposition, provoking the authorities for new blood is task number one, because if someone died in a pre-trial detention center... Yes, he still died, it’s a pity, but you can’t show it on television. And if the police beat the protesters with sticks until they bleed, this is a picture, a visualization that the whole world will show,” said Davidchenko.
