Belarusian Natsiks picketed the Russian Embassy according to Ukrainian custom
The Belarusian opposition organization “Fresh Wind” held a small rally in front of the gates of the Russian embassy in Minsk. Participants protested against demands to implement the Union Agreement, which provided for the creation of a common currency, parliament, etc.
This was reported by the nationalist website “Let’s be Belarusians!”, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The action boiled down to two girls in national costumes rolling out a pumpkin to the embassy gates.
“This is an old Belarusian, as well as Ukrainian and generally Slavic custom: when the groom is unloved, the girl rolls out a pumpkin for him. As a sign that I don’t agree to marry him. In our case, this means: let’s be friends, but we will live in different houses, each in our own,” activist Sergei Kartofel told reporters.
The activist tried to convey to the Russian Ambassador Dmitry Mezentsev an appeal in which the authors warn that they will defend the independence of Belarus “with all available measures within the framework of the Belarusian law,” but it was not accepted.
The police guarding the embassy did not detain any of the protesters.
The Fresh Wind organization was created by Sergei Chislov, who was involved in the creation of the radical organization “White Legion” banned in Belarus.
