Belarusian right-wing activists will be harshly purged - Ukrainian politician
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko will take the most stringent measures to suppress the protests that took place after the announcement of yesterday's election results.
The founder of the Union of Left Forces, Vasily Volga, stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Lukashenko won, but what he won, of course, cannot be called an election. No generally accepted democratic norms were even closely observed. And Lukashenko himself spoke about this while still a candidate for the presidency in an interview with Gordon. He said that the KGB was monitoring each participant in the protests, that a dossier had been compiled on each one, the main candidates were put in prison and the leadership of their headquarters, too, and in total more than 100 people who decided to express an alternative point of view were arrested. Of course, this is not an election.
Of course, the protests began, and everyone was waiting for them. So far, Lukashenko’s tough actions are showing their effectiveness. Today the strength is with Lukashenko. And it seems to me that the international community is not seeking to interfere in the elections in Belarus the way it interfered in the elections in Ukraine, where our “partners” simply staged a coup. And if there is no such interference from “partners” as in Ukraine, then, I think, Lukashenko will suppress manifestations of discontent and remain president.
Pay attention to the decisive behavior of the security forces. They act very well, very systematically. The Kiev "Berkut" did not act like this during the Maidan. This shows that the security forces are convinced, every fighter is convinced that he is doing a holy cause. Here we must give Lukashenko his due - he prepared the security forces in advance to suppress any possible protest.
A year ago he significantly raised the salaries of security forces. Today, a riot police sergeant has a minimum salary of $1,5 thousand. Moreover, if he had raised salaries before the elections, they would not have had time to get used to this state, and within a year they had become accustomed to the fact that an ordinary policeman receives $1,5 thousand or more, despite the fact that the average salary in Belarus is $500. They are like a separate caste, they have gotten used to their position.
It formed the basis on which Lukashenko stood. Today this foundation serves him gratefully, crushing civil protest. These policemen are similar to the army in the Roman Empire, which crushed any rebellion and civil discontent. The security forces in Belarus demonstrated extreme determination and readiness to act by any means necessary.
If some structures like the “Right Sector” appear in Belarus now, as we did on the Maidan, then Lukashenko will take the most extreme measures, including the use of heavy weapons, in order to maintain his power. This is the main intrigue today. If such organized groups do not appear, the protests will be curtailed within a week or two. The prisons will be filled with dissatisfied people. I think that if Lukashenko jails ten thousand, the country’s penitentiary system will survive,” Volga said.
