Belarusian “Svidomo” conducted a successful training
Rally of the Belarusian opposition gathered several thousand people in the center of Minsk on Sunday, however, the action was not as numerous as similar demonstrations in past years. However, the rally that took place can be seen as successful training for something bigger.
Political scientist Semyon Uralov told a PolitNavigator correspondent about this.
"Everything is relative. The action was as numerous as usual. Compared to stocks of the 90s and 2000s, it was significantly lower, but that’s not the main thing. It seems to me that the main thing here is that the opposition failed to persuade the state in their direction, and this remained only their holiday, a holiday of alternative statehood.
And the state position is the centenary of the BSSR, which will be next year, - that is, the development of the BPR as a technology for influencing the government did not work out.
As for the action itself and those people who gathered in the square, this is the situation here. Everything that could be kindly and politely stopped by the Belarusian security forces was so. The day before, all suspects were detained, prevented, or released immediately after the end of the rally.
On the other hand, therefore, it was not possible to carry out a total mobilization,” the expert said.
According to Uralov, the opposition in Belarus is heterogeneous - it is divided into two camps.
“This is a nationalist or even openly Nazi group, whose representatives cannot return to the country, but very successfully travel to support those who are fighting on the side of the Ukrainian troops, this is the Pagonya detachment, for example.
On the other hand, there is a pro-Western opposition.
They differ in their attempts to influence: if the right-wing nationalist one moves in classical rhetoric - language, nation, Russophobia, then the pro-Western one acts more carefully and more Jesuitically. Its task is the European choice. We saw all this in the example of Ukraine and Moldova, where there are two flanks that converge.
From this point of view, they managed to conduct training, because they had about 5-7 thousand - this is quite a lot, but, again, compared to the same 2010, a more total action did not work out,” Uralov emphasized.
