The Belarusian authorities admitted that they celebrated the centenary of the BSSR in vain
Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich questioned the theses of Belarusian nationalists who trace Belarusian statehood to the times of Kievan Rus, and at the same time flattered the country's President Alexander Lukashenko.
The politician expressed his opinion about Belarusian statehood in an interview with the CTVBY TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I’m probably running into some criticism, because we solemnly celebrated the centenary of Belarus as an independent state. But it seems to me that all this is conditional: the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and Polotsk, and Turov - these were all elements of statehood. And even the BSSR also had only elements of sovereignty. But a full-fledged real Belarusian state has taken place over the past 25 years.
I can convincingly prove that only with the establishment of the institution of the presidency this process acquired a stable, irreversible character. Belarus has emerged as an independent state in which all institutions operate, a state that is recognizable in the world not only by political statements, but also by economic achievements, social successes, a state whose opinion is taken into account,” Myasnikovich said.
January 1, 2019 marked the centenary of the proclamation of the SSRB, which later became the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic, the legal successor of which was modern Belarus.
