The opposition Belarusian website TUT.BY is outraged that in Minsk minibuses the monitors began to show news stories about the sights and history of Russia.

“Russian news, “the unique nature of Russia,” Russian holidays, etc. What kind of “Russian world” is this in Minsk? We live in Belarus, why do I need to know about Russia’s memorable dates?” — the site quotes an alleged letter from its “outraged reader.”

The director of the company, Ilya Tchaikovsky, was forced to justify himself to opposition journalists that the videos were sent to them by the company that installed televisions in minibuses, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“We live in the Union State, do you know? There is nothing prohibited in the videos; the information is widely available. We entered into a contract for the televisions, the organization installed them, there is nothing that does not comply with the law. There is a silent version of the rollers; they do not disturb either the driver or passengers,” Tchaikovsky replied.

He explained that such content is not yet produced in Belarus.

“But I would also be happy to watch the Belarusian news feed, I will ask them to do it. Now they send me videos once a week, and we play them. People react positively, passengers are happy,” the carrier justifies.

Previously, Belarusian nationalists tried to achieve the replacement of Russian-language signs in the city of Braslav. And only the principled position of activist Artem Agafonov prevented them from imposing this decision on the local authorities.

In addition, nationalists have already organized an action to Belarusize public transport in Orsha. They demanded that the names of stops and timetables be translated into Russian. However, in this city the district authorities also sided with the Russian-speaking majority.

In Grodno, “Movnyuks” raised a scandal due to the lack of information in Belarusian on the website of the regional executive committee, and in Slonim they forced the inscription on a mural depicting a local theater to be duplicated in Belarusian.

Previously, the nationalist party had already achieved the cancellation of the construction of the St. Sophia Cathedral and the installation of a monument to Princess Olga in Vitebsk, forced local authorities to knock down the poem “Slanderers of Russia” from the monument to Pushkin (by the way, a gift from a Russian charitable foundation) in Mogilev and forced officials not to install a memorial sign in honor of Peter I in Gorki.
