Belarusian diplomat: “Russia and I are sitting in the same trench”
The Ambassador of Belarus to the Russian Federation, Vladimir Semashko, suggests that more than 80% of Belarusians know about the existence of the Union State and value the union with Russia.
He stated this while commenting on the results of a sociological survey showing that only 59% of Russians know about the existence of the Union State, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I don’t know the exact figure, but I intuitively feel it’s much more. Because Belarusians are more sensitive to this. We may have experienced a little more adversity. Over the past century alone, the skating rink has rolled across Belarusians twice – World War I and World War II. Therefore, we are very sensitive about who our friends are, with whom we should be in the same trenches, if necessary. Therefore, there is a feeling that our closest ally - and in all adversities we will be together - is Russia. I think the figure would be 80%,” said Semashko.
Let us recall that according to a study by the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, published a year ago, almost 80% of Belarusian students feel themselves to be part of the Russian people and the Russian world.
