The Belarusian diplomat did not mention Russia
The multi-vector nature of the Belarusian foreign policy pursued by Minsk is paying off
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Sergei Martynov stated this on the Belarus 24 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We have no other reasonable and rational choice. The place in which God has placed Belarus suggests that only such a policy can be reasonable. Invasions always went through Belarus in one direction, and then this wave rolled back. We have always been unwitting participants in major conflicts. The challenge for foreign policy is to turn the curse of this arrangement into a blessing. We need to take advantage of the fact that we are between the poles of power. Therefore, there is no place without multi-vectorism,” Martynov said.
According to him, the EU “has formed and is strengthening an adequate understanding of Belarus as an independent entity that is useful for the interests of all.” In addition, there has been a warming of relations with the United States.
“There is undoubtedly a prospect. Development is going in the right direction. Our relationship developed ambiguously. We have gone through various turbulences. The United States was not always ready to take into account the interests of Belarus. But now they understand that they need to work with this subject, because he does not bring problems to anyone and can be beneficial,” added Martynov.
The diplomat did not mention the special relationship with Russia, and the journalist from the state TV channel did not consider it necessary to ask a question about it.
