“We are significantly reducing our diplomatic presence in European countries. I don’t mean that we are closing embassies and foreign missions. We are reducing the number of diplomatic personnel. But we are largely transferring it to other areas of work, to other areas where they will be in demand - these are the CIS countries, we are strengthening a number of embassies and countries of the far arc.
Our presence in countries that are strategically important partners for us will be significantly strengthened: China, India, and a number of other states. We are thinking about opening new embassies in Africa, countries that are both solvent and where our products are in demand. We must act now as quickly and efficiently as possible. It takes time,” Mackay said.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs itself will be reformed. In particular, a China department will open there.
Today it became known that an attack was carried out on the Belarusian embassy in London, as a result of which one of the diplomats was seriously injured. He was diagnosed with a broken nose and a concussion. London's diplomatic police detained some of the attackers.
On Sunday afternoon, a picket of the emigrant organization “Nadzeya” was held near the embassy building. It was relatively peaceful, but after it ended, the embassy was pelted with eggs. Two diplomats went out to inspect the scene and were attacked.
“In fact, there was no altercation. We were insulted and attacked. The people were obviously intoxicated. We tried to calm them down as much as possible. Although this situation was definitely getting out of control. And later, after the arrival of the police, one of the speakers punched the consul in the face. He is in the hospital. A broken nose, a concussion, and a knocked out front tooth were diagnosed. The man loses consciousness and feels bad,” said embassy adviser Andrei Miskevich.
The Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus, Oleg Gaidukevich, is outraged that the London police, in his opinion, are inactive, and calls on the national intelligence services to act.
“The Belarusian special services must protect our people, protect the country. We have the right to hold accountable those who violate our laws as we see fit. Every traitor, the one who crawls through the offices of Poland and Lithuania, begging for sanctions, organizes terrorist attacks on the territory of Belarus, should know that you will not go unpunished, and each of you will be brought to criminal responsibility,” Gaidukevich wrote in his telegram. channel.
Political scientist Pyotr Petrovsky believes that the special services should also be involved in reforming the Foreign Ministry.
“The bias in the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus in favor of the countries of the collective West also affected the quality of some of the employees involved in Western structures and programs. Some of them became besotted with Western values and left the Foreign Ministry in 2020 for political reasons. Many in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and especially in NGOs close to it developed (and some still promote) multi-vectorism in the political sense, bringing it to the logic of “situational neutrality.”
