Belarusian minister persecutes wife for ignorance of language
Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei criticized his wife, actress and TV presenter Vera Polyakova, for mistakes in her Belarusian speech.
She complained about this in an interview with Belarus Today, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I’ll tell you this story. Not so long ago we had a program in Mov. I was terribly worried. In general, I speak Belarusian well and periodically host concerts and events in it. But here there is television, a lot of improvisation. In general, we broadcast, and immediately there was a huge response - so many people called, wrote, and thanked us.
I came home inspired. And from the doorway I’m already shouting to my husband: “Volodya, today we had a program in the language.” You saw?". To which the husband replied dryly: “I looked. I turned it on, and already in the first eyeliner you made three mistakes.”
How upset I was! I went to the theater and cried: wow, so many people praised me, but my own husband criticized me,” Polyakova said.
Last week, Makei came to a reception for diplomats accredited in Minsk wearing an embroidered shirt and said: “I think each of us should take upon ourselves the obligation to wear an embroidered shirt more often and speak our native Belarusian language.”
