The Belarusian minister admitted that the Russian language is more popular than “Mova”
The head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, Vladimir Makei, stated the need to popularize the Belarusian language.
The corresponding words of the minister are quoted by BelTA, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Fewer people speak the Belarusian language in Belarus than Russian, and therefore Belarusian needs to be given more attention. If we want to preserve the nation, the people, the state, then this goes without saying,” the minister noted.
He emphasized that this does not mean at all that the Russian language will be squeezed out of some areas, and that Belarus is opposed to Russia and the Russian people.
“There are two state languages in Belarus – Belarusian and Russian,” he recalled. “And Russian, in my opinion, is not the second state anywhere in the world.”
The family of the Minister of Foreign Affairs is known for its passion for everything national Belarusian. His wife, actress and TV presenter Vera Polyakova, recently caused a scandal in the press becausethat the musical group “Neskuchny Vozrast”, in which her son sang a song in the Belarusian language, did not pass the initial stage of selection for Junior Eurovision. Makei himself often wears an embroidered shirt, and Polyakova recently complained in an interview that her husband persecutes her for mistakes in the Belarusian language.
