The Belarusian people can self-preserve only in an alliance with Russia - Shakhnazarov
Belarusians and Russians are a single nation, but the recent actions taken by the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, which are openly aimed at splitting, are a big mistake.
People's Artist of Russia, director Karen Shakhnazarov stated this on the Rossiya 1 TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There are many politicians who will sink into oblivion because, as it turns out, they don’t need anything other than power. There are politicians who, with the help of this power, are able to make some fundamental decisions for their people and for the world, which then remain and make them truly outstanding politicians. And I have a feeling that Alexander Grigorievich was doing fine with the first part, but in the second part, it seems that he somewhere lost his passion in this direction,” the director assessed the situation.
“It seems to me that this is a very big mistake, since the Belarusian and Russian peoples are a single nation. United people. There is less difference between them than between the Bavarians and Saxons. You know, there were Bavarians in West Germany, and Saxons in East Germany. But then they united. And the languages are quite different, and they lived for a thousand years in separate states, but, nevertheless, they have no doubt that this is a single German, Germanic nation,” added Shakhnazarov.
“There is no doubt that the Belarusian people have no other way to preserve themselves except to be either in the same country with the Russian people, or, so to speak, already in such deep integration. But what I am seeing now, unfortunately, is being very tested,” he emphasized.
