The Belarusian secret of stability – elections the old fashioned way
Belarus is not threatened by the Ukrainian scenario of elections turning into Maidan.
The Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Belarus, Lidiya Ermoshina, told the Belarus 1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Let's think about the price component. For us, this costs the candidate for deputy nothing except moral costs and, perhaps, some expenses associated with travel and the creation of a small personal financial fund from which he will prepare leaflets. In Russia and Ukraine, a lot of money is invested in campaigning, and political strategists are working. They must earn their bread.
An appropriate information product is created that suppresses the voter.
We invest minimal money in elections, and social activists work for us in their free time, in the old fashioned way, without resorting to special information technologies. Therefore, our election campaign is very traditional, conservative. It may seem boring, but it does not create fuss and allows the voter to calmly make his choice without any days of silence. They don’t suppress him,” Yermoshyna said.
On November 7, Belarus will hold elections to the Council of the Republic, and on November 17 – to the House of Representatives. Elections are held according to the majoritarian system.
