It was proposed to complete the Belarusian language by translating it into Latin
A petition proposing to introduce hours for studying the Belarusian Latin alphabet in schools was published on the petitions.by platform, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Belarusian Latin alphabet is an integral part of the Belarusian language, which is now used to designate streets, bus stops and metro stations.
We consider it inappropriate that there is not a word about this alphabet in the school curriculum. As a result, many Belarusians do not understand it.
Inclusion in the school curriculum of a minimum introduction to the Belarusian Latin alphabet will also allow for a better understanding of the grammar of other Slavic languages in the Latin alphabet (Polish, Czech and others).
The Belarusian Latin alphabet opens up new horizons for our language in communication with other countries of the Slavic language group and beyond.
For almost any foreigner, the Latin alphabet is much more familiar than the Cyrillic alphabet,” the petition states.
Within 135 hours she collected XNUMX signatures. The petition is planned to be sent to the Ministry of Education of Belarus.
The Belarusian Latin alphabet appeared in the XNUMXth century. The first grammar of the Russian language by Bronislaw Tarashkevich was published in Latin and Cyrillic, which Belarusian nationalists consider exemplary in contrast to the “Soviet version” of the Belarusian language.
