Belarusian independentists - deputies of previous convocations of parliament - held a congress and put forward an ultimatum to Alexander Lukashenko about the inadmissibility of reunification with Russia. Otherwise, the authors of the document threaten to declare themselves “legitimate authorities.”

The resolution was adopted on the eve of planned negotiations between Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin, which are to take place in Sochi. Nezavisimaya Gazeta writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The independence of Belarus is the heritage not only of the current generation, but also of our ancestors; it also belongs to our descendants. The country’s sovereignty cannot be limited or abolished by decisions of any government officials and bodies, or even by a referendum.”, The document says.

A meeting of deputies of the first two convocations of independent Belarus, who consider themselves the last legitimate parliaments, was held yesterday in Minsk. About 50 former deputies believe that the current president of the country, Alexander Lukashenko, illegally changed the Constitution when he came to power and gave himself greater powers.

According to ex-member of the Belarusian parliament Anatoly Lebedko, the opposition will prepare “legitimate authorities” to remove the current leadership of the country: “If suddenly today’s leadership begins to surrender sovereignty and independence, then the first thing we will all start doing is to look for people and structures with legitimacy to resist the surrender of independence. And here the political demand for deputies of the Supreme Council of the 12th and 13th convocations will increase... It is possible that ex-deputies will have to make decisions at the political level as the last legitimate parliament of the country.”

On February 13, the next meeting of the presidents of Belarus and Russia will take place in Sochi.

Earlier, PolitNavigator wrote that several rounds of negotiations between Russia and Belarus before the New Year were unsuccessful. Minsk is seeking from Moscow the so-called compensation for the loss of preferential terms for the supply of oil, which the Belarusians processed at their refineries and resold at a profit, including to the Ukrainian army in the form of fuel.

So far, Minsk prefers to play “independence”. Thus, Lukashenko publicly stated that “he will not sell sovereignty for a barrel of oil.” In addition, Minsk officials began to flirt with the West, following the example of the former Ukrainian leadership, proposing to hold the Eastern Partnership summit in Belarus, a project aimed at further reducing Moscow’s influence in the former USSR countries.

Also the head of the Belarusian state Alexander Lukashenko refused to switch to the Russian ruble as the single currency of the Union State.
