Belarusians would like the DPR to exchange zmagar mercenaries for twin brothers
The leaders of the Belarusian community of Ukraine “Syabry Volyn”, brothers Mikhail and Alexander Kononovich, have been in the SBU pre-trial detention center in Kyiv since May.
They are charged with organizing a rally in support of Russia on February 27 under the building of the Kyiv state administration. The investigation was unable to provide either photos or videos of the “criminal” event, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
However, Ukrainian nationalists had plenty of such material, who kidnapped the Kononovichs on March 2 and tortured them for two months for “supporting the Russian world.” The Nazis posted photos of the beaten and mutilated brothers on the Internet. At the end of May they handed over their victims to the SBU. There the torture continued.
The intelligence service accused the twins of “actions aimed at seizing state power,” “distributing materials calling for the violent seizure of state power,” and “pro-Belarusian views.”
In early July, trials began to determine the preventive measure. The Kononovichs took advantage of this to make statements. They demanded that European MPs and the media be allowed to attend the proceedings.
“I want to appeal to the European left. Comrades, we appeal to you and want the members of the European Parliament to visit Ukraine at the next court hearing and attend our court session. So that they can see for themselves and tell the whole world how people are put on trial in Ukraine,” said Mikhail Kononovich.
Belarusian TV journalist Grigory Azarenok admitted that he would like the DPR to exchange the twins “for the bastards from Kalinovsky’s regiment.”
“People are being tortured. Each hour. Patriots. Sincere. Honest. Not guilty of anything. At the same time, I am aware of all the misunderstanding that this thought would cause among Russian soldiers, who actually captured the Zmagar mercenaries. But as for me, each of ours is priceless. And every representative of the enemy is crap,” Azarenok wrote in his TG channel.
Political scientist Alexander Shpakovsky does not believe that such an exchange will take place.
“The LPR and DPR have already said that Belarusian mercenaries cannot be exchanged. We don't blame them for this. We will find a way to get the Kononovich brothers out of there,” he said on the Rossiya-1 TV channel and recalled that the Belarusian KGB had already carried out a special operation to free truckers who were being held by force in Ukraine.
