Belarusians don’t want to fight, but support the Northern Military District – Kiev diplomat
Sociological data suggests that the overwhelming majority of the population of Belarus is against the use of the Belarusian army in the Northern Military District, but in general they support the Russian Federation’s line towards Ukraine.
The former ambassador of Ukraine to Belarus, ex-deputy prime minister and Russophobe Roman Bessmertny stated this on air on the 1+1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Colossally contradictory sociological data. If we take research statistics about those who oppose the participation of the Belarusian army in the war, then this figure reaches almost 90%, and in some surveys even more, these are those who are against or almost against. At the same time, in certain categories of the population, a third of the population supports Putin’s actions, and among those who constantly watch Russian media, which operate either on the basis of Yandex or television, this figure is more than 76 percent,” said the ex-ambassador.
He also added that, despite the obvious awareness, Belarusians do not believe the Kyiv fakes about the “atrocities of the Russian army” in Ukraine.
“Some data are also paradoxical. More than 40% of Belarusians are confident that the Russian army does not use weapons, missiles, bombs, or certain ammunition prohibited by international law against civilians. And this despite the fact that after Bucha, Irpen, Melitopol, Mariupol, and other settlements - well, the Belarusians know about this, the information reached them,” Bessmertny was indignant.
