Benyuk: No special status for Donbass, but it needs to be surrounded by a fence
Kyiv, September 11 (PolitNavigator, Kirill Boyarin) – The faction of the Ukrainian nationalist party “Svoboda” will not allow Petro Poroshenko to introduce any special statuses for Donbass, but agrees with the initiative to build “engineering structures” to fence the rebellious region from the rest of Ukraine.
Verkhovna Rada deputy from Svoboda Bogdan Benyuk told Navigator about this.

“Now we are in such a situation that it is personally unacceptable for me to assign any special status to the Lugansk and Donetsk regions. I don’t understand the president’s words... If the president has some other opinion and puts some other plan behind it, then I think we will fight with his position then,” he said, adding that we can only talk about guaranteeing the rights of self-government of Donbass at a level similar to other Ukrainian regions.
However, Benyuk supports the idea of building “engineering structures” around Donetsk and Lugansk.
“It seems to me that in one way or another the border needs to be delineated and protected... The fact that the border needs to be protected is clear to every resident of Ukraine,” says an associate of Oleg Tyagnibok.
