The Serbian pro-Western opposition is trying to spin new scandals, but sociologists only record a drop in the ratings of Maidan activists. It seems that this is precisely the secret of the decision of the top opposition to boycott the upcoming spring parliamentary elections, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

Another attempt at an information attack on the government was the opposition’s creation of a fake, alleging that the Serbian Ministry of Defense had set up marijuana plantations at a secret military facility.

The fake was published on Twitter by Marinika Tepic, press secretary of the main sponsor of the opposition Union for Serbia, oligarch Dragan Djilas.

However, users immediately found out that the published photo was an old chicken farm, which had been used for military needs for 40 years.

“When hatred becomes the meaning of life, they see marijuana in the chicken coop. Those objects where Marinika Tepic sees marijuana plantations are engaged in breeding laying hens. I urge Marinika to visit our chickens,” Defense Minister Alexander Vulin ridiculed the opposition’s accusations.

The unsuccessful attempt to stir up a scandal appears to have been intended to divert public attention from information that had recently appeared in the media about connections of the Serbian opposition with the drug mafia and the criminal world.

The popularity of the Serbian opposition is steadily declining. According to the latest published poll conducted by the American National Democratic Institute (NDI) with the participation of USAID, support for the Union for Serbia alliance was only 6% (a few months ago, measurements showed a figure twice as high).

At the same time, the popularity of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party, led by the country's leader Aleksandar Vucic, is more than 50%, Informer reports.
