Ukraine's unprecedented response to the detention of sailors in the Kerch Strait
Ukrainian society “mobilized” in response to the detention of 24 sailors by the Russian border service after a provocation in the Kerch Strait in November 2018.
Deputy Commander of the Ukrainian Navy Andrey Ursol stated this on the Odessa Seventh TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Naval flags have been raised over many Ukrainian cities. Local activists and authorities agreed that they would remain there while our citizens were held captive. The action with blue and yellow paper boats took place not only in Ukraine, but also far beyond its borders,” Ursol said.
He also highly appreciated the action in Kyiv, where 24 artists painted paintings, the subject of which was the return of Ukrainian sailors to Odessa, and presented them to the families of the “prisoners.”
The TV channel presenter recalled that the Shakhtar and Dynamo Kyiv football players presented the sailors with personalized T-shirts.
“I am also grateful to all the citizens who write letters to our soldiers who are in captivity,” Ursol added.
