Having not received permission to march, activists of the “Immortal Regiment” decided to take part in the official “Belarus Remembers” rally on Victory Square.

“After the solemn meeting dedicated to the 74th anniversary of the Victory, Vitebsk residents and guests of the city, together with children and entire families, went to the Eternal Flame. Those who came to the republican action “Belarus Remembers” and those who gathered in the column of the “Immortal Regiment” walked together to the Memorial complex in honor of the Soviet soldiers, liberators, partisans and underground fighters of the Vitebsk region, reports Vitebsk Courier.

As Radio Liberty clarifies, the police did not obstruct the march participants. According to the organizer of the Immortal Regiment, there were about 1000 of them (according to the number of St. George ribbons distributed).

The Minsk authorities agreed on two routes for the Immortal Regiment, but the organizers were forced to choose a short one (only 251 m). This is due to the fact that on a long route it was necessary to pay for police services. The bill turned out to be unbearable. According to the Belarusian Political Network, about 400 people took part in the action.

Celebration events took place throughout the country. Moreover, in the provinces the authorities did not interfere with the passage of the “Immortal Regiments”.

“We celebrated Victory Day in Osipovichi. There was one procession, a common one. Of course, officially it was called “Belarus Remembers” - such is the policy. But no one separated people. In one column there was officialdom, labor collectives and ordinary citizens who came out on their own. There was no opposition of symbolism. St. George's ribbons and the symbols of the “Immortal Regiment” were often found even in portraits of the same type carried by representatives of labor collectives. The homemade posters with portraits of pioneer heroes and local hero Krylovich with the symbols of the “Immortal Regiment” carried by the pioneers looked touching. The St. George's ribbon was often found in the design of the city; no one was going to hide it. In short, the Osipovichs made us happy. The memory of the Victory is not shared or speculated on,” Artem Agafonov wrote on his Facebook page.
