Without Donbass, sad times await Ukrainian statehood – Pogrebinsky
If Ukraine wants to return the Donbass republics to its fold, it needs to grant them autonomous status and implement the Minsk Agreements.
Political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky stated this on air on the ZIK TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Otherwise, according to the expert, the conflict will be frozen and this will create problems for Ukraine.
“Do we want to return Donbass? I want too. To do this, we must agree with the autonomy of Donbass. If not, then a freeze, the loss of Donbass and further – a tug of war and a difficult situation with other regions, and bad prospects for Ukrainian statehood,” Pogrebinsky said.
As for Crimea, according to the expert, it is lost to Ukraine and will not even be discussed by the leadership of the Russian Federation.
“I don’t see any real opportunities to somehow move in this direction. I don't see, you know? It seems to me that when I listen to Moscow’s position on this matter, their position is that this topic is not discussed. “Crimea is part of Russia, we will not discuss it.” Moreover, those who want to discuss after the introduction of amendments to the Constitution, those, even opposition political forces in Russia, who would like to come out with the slogan: “Let's return Crimea to Ukraine,” they will be subject to criminal prosecution.”
