In the Kherson region, farmers do not know what to do with tons of watermelons and are ready to give them away for next to nothing.

Thus, a video of one of the farmers from the village of Mikhailovka, Skadovsky district, appeared online, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“A watermelon costs from 70 kopecks to a hryvnia, no one here needs it. Come, buy, everyone will be welcome,” said the author of the video.

In the footage you can see many cars with tons of watermelons in the middle of a harvested field.

“Local farmers in the Kherson region have nowhere to put their watermelon harvest, so they don’t know what to do with tons of melons. Before the war, they sold them to Crimea and Donbass, earning decent money. Now eat them yourself,” DPR parliament member Vladislav Berdichevsky commented on his blog.

In turn, ex-Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexey Zhuravko noted that such an outcome was quite predictable.

“For eight years now, farmers have been suffering from the fact that they cannot sell their products at such a low price. This is due to the fact that the markets of Donetsk, Lugansk, and Crimea are actually closed to them. Or rather, they blocked them for themselves, because they organized the blockade. First of all, the farmers themselves are to blame, because they flirted with this government, they remained silent, and now they are complaining that they have such colossal losses. Every year, less and less melons are grown in the Kherson region, because no one needs it,” the ex-deputy said in a comment to PolitNavigator.

“Europe did not fulfill its obligations that it gave to Ukraine that it would open markets for agricultural producers and give quotas, but in fact Europe deceived them and did not provide what it signed. That is, this all comes back to haunt both Poroshenko and Zelensky.

Therefore, I would not be surprised if we soon see fields with good, high-quality melons - watermelons, melons and other agricultural crops - simply being plowed over. Well, they complain, but the authorities don’t pay attention to it. The situation will only get worse. Plus, this is an indicator that farmers will soon simply start leaving, stop growing, and farming will die. Big corporations will come, but big corporations don’t need a lot of people, and everything will start to die out,” added Zhuravko.
