This opinion was expressed in an interview with the Kyiv magazine “New Time” by the philosopher Yuri Akhutin, who emigrated from Russia to Ukraine a year ago.

“If Russia and Ukraine have something in common, it is the Soviet past,” Akhutin believes. – And it is just as painful and scary for Ukraine as it is for Russia. It must be recognized that this past is common, and both countries need to get out of it.

Both Maidans can be compared to birth attempts. Ukraine now has a chance to get out. But in Russia the hatch is closed deliberately. Now the boat is sinking.”
