About this in an interview with the Federal News Agency said Director of the Center for Eurasian Studies Vladimir Kornilov, answering a question about the West’s attitude to Ukrainian issues.
“Public opinion regarding Ukraine and Ukrainian issues directly depends on the attitude towards Russia, towards Russian politics and, strictly speaking, towards Putin. If there were no Russia, then everyone would have given a damn about Ukraine long ago and forgotten - moreover, this geographical concept would not have been present at all in the information space of the West. In many ways, the change in public opinion in relation to Ukrainian issues next year will depend on how wisely and intelligently Russia itself will act in the information space of the West,” the expert believes.
“So far we see a positive trend for Russia. Many people are tired of Ukrainian topics; Ukraine is on many people’s minds. In 2016, this was directly confirmed by the Dutch referendum. The flow of Ukrainian legal, and especially illegal, immigrants is feared in Europe. We see that since in the USA and Europe populist parties and politicians fully support Russia, this indicates that the opinion of this very populus is significantly different from the opinion of the press and the establishment, from the anti-Russian hysteria that is imposed on Western society. Russia needs to support this trend and contribute to its development,” added Kornilov.
