If Ukraine fails to improve relations with the Russian Federation, it faces the prospect of being left without gas in the middle of a cold winter.
Economic expert Anatoly Peshko stated this on air on the ZIK TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If our relations with the Russian Federation are not improved, if we do not sign an agreement on gas transit, then it is very likely that there will even be a complete shutdown of gas supplies throughout the winter, especially during periods of severe frost.
Because the gas transportation system is built in such a way that if there is not sufficient pressure in the main gas pipelines, then the extraction of gas from gas storage facilities is not able to quickly release to the surface a volume of gas that would be sufficient to maintain normal pressure in medium and low pressure gas pipelines. Accordingly, the gas supply to industrial consumers and the population will be disrupted. You can’t joke with such things,” Peshko said.
