Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Leonid Kozhara stated this on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, we are not even talking about the financing of the organization, but the initial principles of its appearance.
“Russia’s debts to the budget of the Council of Europe are important for the Council of Europe, but are not the number one issue. It seems to me that the number one question, as most delegations in PACE present it, is that without Russia there is no point in the existence of the Council of Europe itself. The Council of Europe is the oldest pan-European organization that has existed for decades, much older than the European Union, it was created in order to extend the European idea and European law to adjacent territories. The heyday of the Council of Europe came with the collapse of the Soviet Union and the Council of Europe actively took up the promotion of European conventions and so on. I think this conceptual problem is number one,” Kozhara said.
