Without self-deception: Western sanctions stopped Russia and helped the junta survive
The West's anti-Russian sanctions in support of Ukraine turned out to be quite effective. Political scientist Mikhail Remezov stated this today on the Vesti FM radio station.
“Moscow recognized the legitimacy of the Poroshenko regime and refused to recognize the results of the referendums in the LDPR, although initially there were other signals and possibilities. Moscow refused to support the militia in its expansion. In my opinion, this is all recognition of the seriousness of sanctions risks,” Remezov said.
The sanctions, he believes, did not affect internal Russian politics, reports the PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Russian systemically important banks do not operate in Crimea. “Excellent” result: large Russian business does not recognize Crimea as Russian. This is a serious foundation for the future and a demonstration of the lack of sovereignty of the Russian economic and financial system,” Remezov said.
