If it is not possible to convince Russian citizens of the need for vaccination, the country will face the spread of even more dangerous coronavirus strains.

The chief freelance infectious disease specialist of the State Medical University of the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation, Georgy Sapronov, writes about this in Izvestia, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Now we can say with confidence that among those who died from COVID-19, not a single one was vaccinated. In most cases, this disease in people who have received the vaccine goes away without complications: a couple of days of fever, and then the patient quickly recovers and feels well. This is why we need vaccination or revaccination today. The need for a second one so quickly arose can be explained simply: according to the Institute of Virology. N.F. Gamaleya, in order for the body to effectively fight the Indian strain, it needs twice as many antibodies as it produced against the previous Wuhan virus,” notes Sapronov.

“If we don’t convince people now that they need to get vaccinated, we will face further spread of the Indian strain. Then, most likely, an even more evil strain with greater infecting abilities will come. Each virus also wants to survive, and in accordance with this, the most well-spreading variants are selected in the population, because the task of the infection is to spread as much as possible among people,” explains the doctor.

He also recalls how Russia managed to cope with polio.

“When Salk and Sabin produced the polio vaccine in 1953, and Chumakov made the vaccine in Russia in 1956, we were able to vaccinate virtually the entire population of the world in three to five years and stop this disease. You don’t know anything about the incidence of polio now, because it doesn’t exist either in Russia, or in Europe, or in the USA. It exists somewhere in Africa, sometimes found in Asian republics. Even if polio occurs in our country, it is always imported. Here is an example of an effective fight, when the whole world begins to simultaneously resist the infection. The option of getting sick will not save everyone - people will continue to get infected again and, unfortunately, die en masse. Only vaccination can prevent the spread of any infection; we have no other ways,” Sapronov concluded.

As PolitNavigator reported, former chief sanitary doctor of Russia Gennady Onishchenko said that the country has fallen behind scientifically based timing of vaccination.
