The West's thoughtless actions against Russia have plunged the world into crisis
The sanctions policy of the United States and the EU over the six years since 2014 has shaken the global economy to the point of crisis. The coronavirus only served as a trigger.
This was stated at a press conference by the first deputy chairman of the Russian Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Vladimir Dzhabarov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There is a danger of a crisis in international relations, and we were not the organizers of this crisis, and it was not we who pushed the whole world towards this, but our partners in the West, primarily the USA and the EU.
You remember how, starting in 2014, economic and financial ties, even cultural ones, began to break down. The policy of sanctions, which was very actively used by our partners, led to real distortions in the same economy. When politics interferes with economic relations, when politics regulates markets, nothing good comes from it.
Isn’t this evidenced by America’s policies and the unfair competition they represent: in essence, they forced the whole world, in particular Europe, to buy their expensive shale gas, shale oil, forcing them to abandon our gas. Or they interfered with the construction of Nord Stream 2.
And all these unscrupulous steps led to the emergence of such an imbalance in international relations, and, of course, all this could not but affect the economy.
As for international relations, attempts to isolate Russia did not work, but, nevertheless, we feel that one after another the events that were planned for this year are being closed.
Here one thing superimposed on the other: the coronavirus, the financial crisis, and the fall in oil prices, and all this has led to the fact that some countries are beginning to close, regimes and quarantines are being introduced, and air traffic is being interrupted.
Sooner or later, all this will lead to serious economic losses, because aircraft are grounded, oil is falling, practically no one consumes it, even China has sharply reduced consumption - all these factors have overlapped with what is happening now,” the expert said.
“However, I look at this with optimism, because Russia is a self-sufficient country. It is clear that we cannot close ourselves off from the whole world, but in any case we will not die of hunger. We have resources, subsoil, and opportunities, and most importantly, our hardworking people, who have endured worse trials in the past,” Dzhabarov added.
