Admirals who fled from Crimea to Ukraine remain homeless for eight years
Ukrainian servicemen who fled Crimea in 2014 have been forced to live in Ministry of Defense hotel rooms for eight years now, and upon retirement they risk being left without a roof over their heads.
Verkhovna Rada deputy Elena Khomenko stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Among the internally displaced persons from Crimea there are many of our military personnel who did not betray Ukraine in 2014 and now continue to serve in the national security and defense sector, in particular in the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Ukraine. For many of these military personnel of various ranks, from lieutenants to senior officers, the issue of providing housing for eight years remains open.
Imagine, officers, including even admirals, who served in the Ukrainian Navy for 39 years, are now forced to live in hotel rooms of the Ministry of Defense. Time passes, the military are retiring, and after retirement, without solving the housing issue, they will be left without a roof over their head,” the deputy was indignant.
“According to my information, about 2500 military personnel were displaced from Crimea, and over the course of eight years, the housing issue was resolved for only 70 percent of them, but for almost a third it remains open,” Khomenko added.
