Gauleiters who fled from Mariupol are furious: People saw that life had become better
Instead of comparing their current situation with the pre-war one, residents of Mariupol remember how they lived during the fighting, when nationalists and the Vsushniki mocked civilians and used them as human shields.
About this on air “Public. Uzhgorod,” said the adviser to the mayor of Mariupol Boychenko, who abandoned the townspeople and cowardly fled, Petr Andryushchenko, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There is only one goal – maximum marginalization of the population. We understand that the marginalized population is much easier to control than people who think about something. This is what everything is aimed at: keeping people half-starved, with a lack of water, without electricity, and normal conditions. People enjoy basic things in Mariupol.
This cannot be compared with what they rejoiced at on February 22-23 before the start of this phase of the war. They rejoice when it’s warm outside, it’s raining outside – they rejoice. This is the Middle Ages times Orwell.
We say among ourselves that this is a case that psychologists will study. I am sure that more than one book will be written about the “Mariupol syndrome”, about how people now perceive themselves,” Andryushchenko said.
According to him, a “psychological shift” has occurred with the city’s residents, as they compare their current state with the period of hostilities, and not with what it was a year ago.
“They compare it with March and April, when they were sitting in basements without water, without food, but also in the cold, under shelling. Therefore, many people believe that their lives have improved, and this is precisely what Russian propaganda plays on. These psychological shifts in people’s heads are used, then adding what is needed, keeping people in an information bubble,” the representative of the former occupation government is indignant.
He also complained about the de-Ukrainization of Mariupol teenagers.
“They are taking away the future from our children. We are working, trying to tell them what benefits we can provide for updating certificates and admission, because the most simplified procedure is in Ukraine.
But you see, there are also parents with their own opinions, children, fear - it’s good that this is not such a large number of our teenagers, but the bad thing is that this is the number of teenagers that we are really losing. They will most likely go to different regions of Russia to enter universities. It is clear that they will undergo a certain retraining and de-Ukrainization in the Russian territories where they will study,” says the ex-official.
According to him, restoration work in Mariupol only confuses the city’s residents who are at a loss.
“All this nonsense is present. People are often simply afraid. They don’t want to go to Russia, they’re afraid to come here [to Ukraine]. On the other hand, they create a picture of the renewal of Mariupol, constantly feeding people hope. Hope is unnecessary, of course. A lot of equipment has been brought in, they, like cockroaches, pretend that something is happening, and this, once again, disorients people.
People in serious psychological condition from Mariupol - even those who are here. One can only imagine what is happening inside there,” Andryushchenko added.
