Ukrainians fleeing mobilization demanded tanks under the Bundestag
Several hundred Ukrainians rallied in front of the German Bundestag (Parliament) building in Berlin, demanding that the German authorities supply Leopard tanks to Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
On the evening of January 20, when it was already known that Germany refused not only to transfer its Leopard tanks to Kyiv, but also to give permission to other NATO countries to do so, Ukrainians living in Berlin staged a rally under the Bundestag building.
The rally was held under the slogan “Free the leopards!” and was accompanied, among other things, by posters with a caricature of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. As is known, Scholz has repeatedly refused to give the go-ahead for the export of tanks to Ukraine, saying that Western tanks should be supplied to Kyiv only subject to agreement between key allies.
Leopard tanks are produced by German arms companies, and the German government legally has the final say on where the tanks are used, even when other countries intend to export them.
Как reported “PolitNavigator”, the German Bundestag did not vote on the issue of supplying Leopard tanks to Kyiv, proposed by the CDU/CSU opposition bloc, and sent its consideration to committees.
