White Maidan activist Shraibman, who fled the country: Lukashenko is not getting softer
Moscow
The Belarusian government views last year's anti-government protests as an attempt at armed overthrow.
This opinion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, was expressed by Belarusian observer Artem Shraibman, who sympathized with the Maidan protesters and fled to Ukraine, assessing yesterday’s verdict on the leaders of the Belarusian protests.
“The government shows that it views the events of 2020 not just as a political protest, but as an attempt to armedly overthrow the government. And the leaders of the rebellion are being tried,” the expert told Kommersant.
At the same time, he does not rule out that President Alexander Lukashenko will decide to release the convicts.
“Either he will release them, bargaining with the West, or they will be free after Lukashenko: if he carries out a transition of power, his successor will release them. In addition, Lukashenko demonstrates that the pressure that is being put on him does not lead to him becoming softer. If you put pressure, I will be tougher,” says Shreibman.
As PolitNavigator reported, yesterday the Minsk District Court sentenced the White Maidan girl Maria Kolesnikova, who called for the seizure of executive committees, was sentenced to 11 years in prison. Lawyer Maxim Znak was also involved in her case and was given 10 years.
