A white ribbon MP who fled to Ukraine admitted the failure of Euromaidan
The coup d'état that took place in Ukraine did not change anything - the old elite remained in power, and the hopes of ordinary Maidan activists were cruelly betrayed.
This was stated in the Baltics during the liberal “Free Russia Forum” by ex-deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Ilya Ponomarev, who fled to Ukraine - the only parliamentarian who voted against the reunification of Russia with Crimea in 2014, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Look what happened as a result of the Maidan of 2013-2014. Was this super-powerful civil society able to bring its power? It couldn't. It retained the same elite it had before.
This elite, as a result of actions in conditions of a military conflict, a super-powerful threat to the existence of the state, was able to achieve total hatred from society, and, as a result, in the next elections five years later, society voted for a person whom everyone called an absolute pig in a poke, simply on the principle that that anyone, just not the power that came within the framework of this very Maidan. Not because people are against the ideals of Maidan. It is precisely because people support the ideals of the Maidan that they were dissatisfied with the government that they themselves installed in 2014.
Do we want the same thing to happen in Russia? I don’t want to,” Ponomarev summed up.
