Today, Russia has much more freedom of speech than the United States.

One of the top LiveJournal bloggers, Boris Rozhin, writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, in his own words, assessing the scandal surrounding ex-adviser to the President of the Russian Federation Andrei Illarionov, who moved to the United States, and who will be subject to scrutiny in his host country for supporting supporters of President Trump.

Rozhin points out that Illarionov has been harshly criticizing Putin on LiveJournal for years.

“But as soon as he blurted out something about the country of his current residence, a classic elaboration immediately began in the media and at work. Ironically, before this story, Illarionov tried with all his might to prove that the United States is a freer country than Russia.

But the consequences for his writings on LiveJournal did not come to him in Russia, where, by and large, they somehow didn’t care what he wrote there. Not everyone appreciates this, but in LiveJournal you can easily praise Putin, scold Putin - no one really cares. Some people talk about “a galactic grandmaster who outplayed everyone,” and others about “a nullified one hiding in a bunker.” Does censorship somehow punish alternative opinions? No, some have been writing the same thing for years,” Rozhin commented on the situation.

Как PolitNavigator previously reported, the inspection will be carried out by the Cato Institute, where Illarionov is currently employed. The reason was his publications on LiveJournal, in which Illarionov called the recent rallies in Washington by supporters of President Trump peaceful, the results of the presidential election unclear, and the storming of the Capitol a provocation.

Institute spokesman Corey Whalen stated that the institution's top management categorically disagrees with Illarionov's statements.

“This issue is being discussed among senior management and with Mr. Illarionov. Violent disruption of constitutional processes is unacceptable and must be unequivocally rejected. Mob rule is not the path to freedom. "The attempt to forcibly keep a defeated president in power strikes at the core constitutional provision of protecting the rights and freedoms of the American people," the institute said in a statement.
